most people i know would be treated like criminals by some others even though they are very respectful people in private.

also about predators. todays scandals show us that this whole witch hunt only makes predators more careful. how many male feminists are using this status and their micro fame to get access to women? we're only giving tools to be used for abuse.

this is right on point. abusers are using cancel culture to attack their victims and gain credibility for themselves. it keeps happening in the youtube and tiktok spheres. jorobe was one of the big ones, he used his woke image to seem less threatening to underage boys and preyed on them.

^it is like that alot of the times esp now. tho like almost every1 said here i think its useful when ur trying to actually cancel some1 who deserves it. when cancel culture gets to the point of cancelling some1 for a mistake that is small then i think it does get to the point of just pointing at every1 else like its their fault, making the issue bigger than it needs to b.

it's this desire to seem morally superior in an environment when it's near impossible to show this same power over, well, the higher powers-- the government. we have so little influence over our material circumstances, we're alienated and propagandised at 24/7, the only outlet is to turn against each other. I don't think it's necessarily wrong when someone, especially influential public figures, get called out for egregious behaviour (sexual/physical assault, public hateful views/action, anything that demonstrably harms others). the real issue is when we start this small scale bickering with each other over, say, a rando getting 'cancelled' for a decade old video of them as a preteen/teen saying slurs in a song or something, and people get them expelled from their university/fired from their jobs over it. what does that do for anyone?

there is so much potential for collective power, yet we use it on our own instead of uniting against the real threat, the ghouls in power that take our human rights away piece by piece. NO WAR BUT CLASS WAR

i think cancel culture is somewhere in between good and bad, like literally everything else. everyone’s opinion on what cancel culture actually is, is going to be different person to person. some people considered calling out rapists to be ‚cancel culture‘ for some context. i fully believe cancel culture to just be choosing to ‚cancel‘ someone after not agreeing with them on that. i don’t think it’s going to ruin anyone‘s life and if it does… that’s honestly their fault for their views lol
