T shouldn’t be a part of LGBI understand why you said this because I used to wonder why the LGBT acronym was three sexual orientation identifiers and one gender identity thing -- it does seem like the "T" is an outlier here. However, the "T" is impossible to separate from the LGB. First, like you implied, there are lesbian, gay, and bisexual trans people. But there are also trans people who lived their lives as gay men and lesbians before coming out as transgender and naturally, these people are already embedded in the LGB(T) community. Think about Gia Gunn and Carmen Carrera from RuPaul's Drag Race. Gia Gunn continues to perform as a drag queen even though she's a trans woman and drag is commonly considered to be "men dressing up as a woman" because drag is her community. And the idea that drag is men dressing up as a woman is ahistorical anyways -- trans woman ALWAYS spearheaded drag culture (watch the documentary "Paris Is Burning" about the 1980s ballroom scene if you want to see this in action). Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual culture all involve elements of skewing gender presentation so NATURALLY there is crossover with the trans community and they are inseparable. Like Truck Shepard said earlier, another example is nonbinary lesbians who do not identify with traditional notions of womanhood because they feel being lesbian disconnects them from traditional womanhood. In the United States, the most commonly cited event that started the gay rights movement in the country was the Stonewall Riots, a raid on a gay bar that incited LGBT to start organizing for their rights (LGBT groups existed before Stonewall, but Stonewall is considered to be The moment where LGBT people started organizing in large numbers and the first pride parade was held to commemorate Stonewall). Trans women of color, like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera were fundamental in Stonewall.
