Hi potterheads, I read the books for the first time 13 years ago and since then I love the magical world with all my heart.
Visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Orlando, Florida) is like my biggest dream, also the new store that opened on New York (completely obsessed with Minalima studios).

I love Harry Potter, but JK rowling is a terrible person! she has a huge history of transphobia and transphobic remarks, which is why a majority of the fandom has renounced her. Honestly, there are some other problematic parts of the harry potter books as well, but I enjoy the universe. I can't decide if I'm a hufflepuff or ravenclaw!

it seems willingly ignorant to claim to not know what she's done, but i'll lay out some examples:

this all started when a woman who worked for the center of global development published a series of very blatantly transphobic statements, including that trans women are men and will always be men. she was fired from her job because of this, and when she tried to legally appeal she was turned down. the judge who turned her appeal down wrote this:
“[Forstater] is absolutist in her view of sex and it is a core component of her belief that she will refer to a person by the sex she considered appropriate even if it violates their dignity and/or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment. [That] approach is not worthy of respect in a democratic society.”

in response, JK Rowling tweeted this:

"Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?"

that woman did not "state that sex is real". she said that sex is the final determining factor of one's identity, and openly said she would misgender a woman if she knew the woman was trans, which is not only humiliating and demeaning, but potentially outing and dangerous if done publicly.

since this initial incident, jk rowling has continued to parrot transphobe rhetoric in moves that deliberately and tangible harm trans people.

she stated the common TERF talking point that HRT is "conversion therapy" for gender nonconforming youth and that using things like puberty blockers is "experimenting on children", even though those same blockers are prescribed to cis children experiencing precocious puberty. she has expressed support for legal attempts in the UK to criminalize prescribing puberty blockers and/or HRT to under 18's even though every study under the sun shows that trans people who have access to transitioning resources earlier in life have statistically significantly better times both in social settings and with their own mental health

she specifically claimed in an essay that autistic people in particular do not have the mental capacity to understand their own gender or make decisions about their bodies, and that the trans rights movement is preying on autistic girls, which is insanely offensive not only to trans people but to autistic people

she said that using the phrase "people who menstruate" is exclusionary towards women, even though it's literally not, because women are people. using phrases like "people with uteruses" "people who menstruate" "pregnant people" etc has nothing to do with "erasing" women and everything to do with the fact that it is not uncommon for things like pap smears or cervical cancer testing to not be covered by insurance for trans men, because their legal documents state that they're male, and that cervixes and vaginas are "women's organs"

she made a positive tweet about author stephen king, and when he tweeted that trans women are women (in response to someone who asked him his opinion) jk rowling deleted her tweet and unfollowed him

this stuff is literally just off the top of my head and isn't everything. it would've taken you two seconds to google this and its offensive that you profess your love for her in the face of this stuff.
