This year, I'm so excited for Christmas! I actually have a job right now, so I'll be able to get presents for all of my family. I also picked up a tea advent calendar from DAVIDsTEA for myself, and I can't wait for December 1st to get to start it. The past few years I've been clinically depressed, but I finally found a medication that actually works, so for the first time in a while it really feels like Christmas. :)

So, to the point of this thread, What holidays do all of you celebrate? and what's your favourite part of them, or what makes them special to you?

Now you've got me excited for Christmas too lol :) it's not as far away as I thought it was, I guess because of the weather lately where I am it still feels like the middle of fall when normally by now it would be pretty cold. Anyways, I love Christmas because it's family time, and gift-giving time :) I also like having time off from school to do whatever and catch up on sleep!

Yes! I live in Northern Canada, and we were having an incredibly mild year. Usually we see a lot of snow in the middle of September or early October, but this year we didn't get any until last week! I was starting to get worried that we weren't going to get any before Christmas. Now that it has snowed, I'm really feeling the spirit.

I put up my tree yesterday.  I haven't decorated it yet. I make it into a slow process.
It was snowing really hard, and cut down a tree, and it put me into the mood to light a big fire, and make my house smell like a forest and sip  hot chocolate.  This was our first snow storm of the year too.  The winter has started very mild in Yellowstone National Park this year.  The sight of the ground turning all pure white really marks the beginning of my holiday spirit.

I make a habit not to put up my tree until the 1st of December. However I often keep it up a week longer in January than is normal I think. I have always loved Christmas although autumn is my favourite. I have been feeling festive today because it snowed, not enough for it to matter but I take what I can get with this stuff. This year my son is nearly old enough to know what is happening and to get excited with me. I intend to make the most of this Christmas since I'll be made redundant from my part-time job at the start of next year. This crimbo will be a AMAZING even if it bankrupts me (future me is cursing present day me). We are going on an old fashioned steam train where you see Santa get hot coco sing carols etc. My son loves trains so I think it will go down well. I have a few new Christmas dishes I want to try this year too so there are things I can look forward to. I know I complain when the decoration go up on the 1st November in the stores and I hear all the festive season soundtracks blaring from the speakers, but I really love this time of year. I suppose I don't want it to start so early because we've just had halloween and here in England bonfire night straight after (America and Canada have Thanksgiving, am I right?). I think we need a rest before the granddaddy of holidays begins. Let me catch my breath!

In my country it's not a big thing to put up trees and decorate but some people do it.
There are events leading up to Christmas day itself but what we really do is go around the neighborhood or down here we refer to it as " house to house". We bring drinks and food items to share with everyone. The main or best dish served during that time is ham. Lots and lots of it. lol there are exceptions like turkey or chicken.

Unfortunately, we don't really celebrate Christmas with our families here. Usually, people just go to "town" (really the middle of the island) with friends to look at the pretty lights and count down. Not really a thing we do with families like people in the states usually do. We also don't have Thanksgiving, Boxing Day, Black Friday etc.

But I am excited for it! Already playing Christmas songs and planning something for gift exchange. My friends and I will be celebrating at one of their house. :)

I love the Christmas lights, people put up in town.  People spend a fortune here, and go to great lengths decorating their houses.  It's such a big thing that the city organizes a parade of lights.  Basically a map of the streets of the best homes.  Entire neighborhoods participate and streets like Candy-Cane Lane suddenly appear.   One home that is out of town a little, actually owns a computer store, and set up his lights coordinated to a Christmas music program, Using his 4 children and wife as hosts and narrators.  Cars que up to watch the 4 hour show. That is something really fun to do, in a place where there is great wealth and creativity during the holidays.

I also live out of town sort of up on a mountain higher than the city, and I noticed today, the new color of the city lights, as I was driving into town for work.  It is beautiful seeing how colorful it all looked, and nearly 2's brighter than usual.  It reminded me of a large jar of jellybeans broken on a black marble floor.
(Been there done that, and saw it.)  It really looked very beautiful.  I only see that beauty in December.
