Last night I experianced something I've heard a little about but had never experianced myself until now. I had a proper lucid dream, where I knew I was dreaming and I was able to control what happened in the dream entirely. It was so weird but also so brilliant! It started where I was teaching one of my drama classes, when one of the kids stands up and says they have to go, because they've just been made King of Australia, because they won a wordplay game show. This is when I clicked to the fact that this was a dream, mainly because there was no way that this particular kid would ever have won a wordplay game show. So I look at my class and say I know none of this is real and they all look back at me and say they know. This is where it gets good because I think I don't want to be here working, I want to be back in Disney World when I was 11 because that was a truly awesome holiday. And then I'm there and I'm on the new improved version of Space Mountain where it's a much longer ride and the visuals are just whoa and you get to sit next to all my favorite anime characters (I am such a child). After a bit I think I actually want to have my husband and son with me because this is such a cool dream rollercoaster and then they are there and I look at my son and say, you know what it's high time you were talking Mr, you can talk now got that? And he smiles and says, ok mummy (which was so wonderful to hear... my 2 and a half yr old son refuses to make sounds outside of baby babble in reality). There was more but I don't remember much of the rest I just know it was really cool to experiance. Has any one else ever had a dream like that? Or a dream that was just really odd or thought provoking? I always find it hard to remember my dreams but I'm glad I got to remember at least some of that one :)

Lucid dreams are so cool!! I've read a lot about that and how to provoke them after watching "Inception". With practice I had many of them, but things got weird when sleeping. I woke up really tired after dreaming or had difficulties for waking up and ended in an intermediate state between asleep and awake. I don't try to have them anymore, but when they come I enjoy flying mostly lol. Flying is awesome!

My lucid dreams are a bit odd.

First and foremost, for some reason, the individuals in my dreams will never admit that I'm dreaming. My subconscious is absolutely determined to not clue me in to the fact that my experiences aren't real.

The only way I can find out that I'm dreaming to begin with is a little trick. In case you didn't know, you can find out you're dreaming by looking at a digital clock, looking away and then looking back. From my experiences, and the experiences of everyone I have told this to, the numbers will change without fail.

At that point, whoever I'm with in my dream will give me an extremely sad look and I'll have to concentrate fully to stop from being awoken. It's an extremely odd feeling, kind of akin to having your soul sucked upward through a vaccuum and having to hold on for dear life to stay on the ground.

The time always change as well as written words.. Also looking at your own hands help. Sometimes I have six fingers or things like that. It's so strange :p

Written words vary by person/dream. Sometimes words will change for me, sometimes they won't.
They never have for my partner. I've heard looking in the mirror helps too but it can also be kind of disorienting/disturbing to see your face twisted.

I've never tried looking at my hands. Perhaps I will try that next time. Thanks for the suggestion.

This was the first time I'd ever been able to admit to people in my dream that i was dreaming and actually stay asleep afterwards. Any time I've realise I'm dreaming in the past I've always woken up stright afterwards. Usually I'm keyed in when I'm going from one room into another and the back again, because it's never the same room. This lucid dream worked nothing like that it ran on a much more logical strain of thought it would seem. I will try looking at hands, mirrors and digital clocks next time if I can subconciously remind myself to.

If your experiences are anything like mine, digital clocks should be just about everywhere once you get in the habit of checking them. To prepare your mind, try making it a habit to look at the time, look away and look back in your day to day life.

I've only had one dream where I was truly able to control the situation. I shot lightning from my fingertips. It was awesome XD

Lucid dreaming never works right for me. Sure, there's points where I realize I'm dreaming and can then take control of the situation.

But as soon as I figure out that I'm dreaming, my subconscious shifts gears super hard to give me the most boring dream possible until I forget I'm in a dream.
I can't count the number of times I've tried to take control in a dream, then ended up finishing essays and reports. My dream world sucks.

Sometimes realizing there is no benefit to arguing is enough to eliminate the temptation to argue.

Lol, poor you. That reminds me of a dream I had which was an exact replica (almost) of the longest and most mind numbing lecture I attended at University. I can't believe I even remember half of what was said. But that was all the dream was. That stupid dull ass lecture. My theory is that it was just so bland it erased my imagination for the day so all I could do was replay my professors monotone voice over and over to myself. You know it would be so cool if there was a way of watching dreams, turning thoughts into images by scanning brain waves or some sciencey thingy-majig. I know it's been talked about a lot but I really want this device to exist, there are so many dreams and thoughts I'd love to describe to folks but my irritating brain can't formulate the correct sentences in order to do it. I blame you boring lecture! You were meant to make me smarter but you killed brain cells instead! This is what I paid for: to lose intelligence. *grumble*

Oh Floydthatcrazylass, I hated university too! I studied sociology, which was a massive mistake I have to admit. I wasted three years of my life and accrued such a student debt, only to work at an antique store. I actually had my first lucid dream during one of the boring sociology lectures. I remember my lecturer blabbing about all the mistakes he had made during his life; how he shouldn't have married his first wife, how he shouldn't have had five kids, how he was wishing to be young and foolish again. When he was talking about his wife breastfeeding his newborn son and how her swollen nipple represented a motherly bond, I must have fallen asleep, because the next moment there were dancing elephants in the lecture hall. One of the elephants squashed my lecturer and then started to talk about nature perservation. I walked out, went to the moon, resurrected my dead grandfather, found a cure for cancer and solved world hunger. It was pretty awesome.
