so how was the experience? :p the abcs of death is a horror anthology, with each letter being a short film by a different director. so they're pretty different from each other. a lot of the letters aren't worth watching imo, but there are some that i found better. one of my faves is from the abcs of death 2, "z is for zygote"

Oooh no. Nope. I'm already creeped out by the concept of a perfectly normal pregnancy, I am not subjecting myself to whatever that's gonna be like.

And it was bizarre, gradually more and more out of this world but I enjoyed that.

ikr? i find pregnancy kinda horrifying already, and it was cool how they managed to make it into something so sinister. and hey, it's exactly what kids do, they kill you from the inside and wear your skin.

I read the series along with my friend when we were horny teens and I'm not ashamed to admit that I still enjoy parts of the books. One part being Bella's crazy horrifying childbirth experience, I remember reading that and being like Stephanie! Girl. G i r l. I also still read the second book on the rare occasion I really feel like re-living Jacob and Bella's depression relationship. New Moon is the closest thing Bella had to character development, or character in the first place and I think that's why I actually enjoy guilty pleasure reading that. Nearly everything else about the books bores me these days, because fact is I'm narcissistic enough that in order for me to enjoy a story it needs to have a queer protagonist.

Now the movies though? Beautiful. Wonderful. I fucking love watching them. When they're bad it's funny and when they're good it's nice.

Hi everyone! I’m kind of new-ish to Bimboland and have been enjoying my time here so far!

On the topic of Twilight, does anyone kind of sympathize with Stephenie Meyer? ...In a weird way? Lindsay Ellis made a video essay a few years ago discussing the sheer amount of hate Meyer received because, as AlienPrinceFromVenus mentioned, Twilight was popular among women and some people hated that.

I’m not doubting that a portion of the hate also stemmed from her writing skill or naivety/ignorance (Which is completely valid - Twilight has a lot of gross situations that should be criticized!), but now that I’m older I get sad seeing media with a heavy female fanbase get shit on just because girls like it.

Did you guys do that Spotify yearly statistics review? What genres did you listen to the most?

first of all, i can see how it would appeal to the horny teen demographic, there's some "conservativeness" to the smut (if that's what it can be called? pandering to teens while still not going the full on porn direction). all i remember is reading the books out of hatred; the idea had potential imo, but i'm not a fan of stephenie's writing. also, i found it super creepy and unnecessary to have that werewolf imprinting thing and then get jacob to imprint on renesmee. like, ew. and he was one of my favourite characters in the books, idk he just felt more like an actual teenager than bella, for instance :/

there was one thing in particular that got me that might not have been so important, but when edward and bella went to brazil for their honeymoon... it was like, damn, stephenie, you didn't research the countries you're writing about, did you? geographically, the vampire family (if i remember correctly) owns an island near rio de janeiro. there aren't that many islands here, especially ones that could just be straight up isolated and hidden from view. i may be wrong, though, but anyways. 

the next thing that bugged me: she had a description for a mythological brazilian creature that she made up, and called it "libishomen" or sth, basically werewolf but misspelled. thing is, that description was somewhat similar to an existing myth, about the pink river dolphin, so it made it seem even more like she hadn't done research. 

in the books defense, it prompted lengthy conversations in school. and ideas that included replacing the vampires with dolphins.

oof im so sorry for rambling, apologies to anyone who read all this bullshit

i totally feel u, u don't have to apologize! plus the depiction of native americans in Twilight was perhaps of much more gravity in its insensitivity and not doing any research into like. basic cultural sensitivity. she (meyer) chose the location of forks just bc she googled it and saw that the Quileute tribe nearby but didn't know jackshit about them or do any research (she has admitted this)...and her books have had real-life consequences for the Quileute people, obviously--massive amounts of tourism basically capitalizing off the perceived 'exotic-ness' of the Quileute culture and stereotypical images of indigenous ppl in general. and they barely get any cuts in the profits of the tour companies despite meyer having built a massive empire, almost, off this shitty book series, so they still suffer in poverty. on a larger scale this was just one more stereotypical and harmful depiction of natives in hollywood, from the portrayal of Quileute culture, to the implication of werewolf blood being 'savage' in contrast to the eliteness of vampires, to the romance between bella and jacob. further reading:  http://film.byu.edu/aperture/?p=187
